Somatic Healing

Embracing Collective Pain and Social Change

Somatic healing goes beyond just our personal stories—it delves into the collective pain and injustices we carry as a society. It's realizing our bodies are like history books, holding not just our own stories but also the tales of our ancestors and communities.

When we talk about somatic healing, we're exploring how society's big structures and power dynamics have left their mark on our bodies. It's about unpacking the weight of history, oppression, and cultural norms that we all carry in our bones.

From the expectations placed on us by our families to the societal pressures around gender roles, racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, and sexual norms — it’s all had an impact. Somatic healing helps us understand how these influences shape our sense of self and how we respond to the world.

Through simple practices like breathing exercises and gentle movements, we start to untangle these societal knots that are stored within our bodies. We learn to listen to our bodies' whispers, to understand how they've been shaped by all of our experiencing — including cultural conditioning, social expectations and systems of oppression.

One beautiful thing about somatic healing is how it connects our personal struggles with the bigger picture of societal change. It's not just about fixing ourselves—it's about creating a world where everyone can thrive. By addressing the effects of oppression and inequality on our bodies, somatic healing works towards making society fairer and more just for all of us. It may be a slow journey towards this but it’s important we make progress — no matter how slowly.

Somatic healing also recognizes the different experiences and identities we each bring to the table. It understands that things like race, gender, age, ability, and class shape how we move through life. By honoring these differences, somatic practitioners create safe spaces where everyone feels seen and valued.

At its heart, somatic healing challenges the idea that we have to go through life alone. It shows us that our personal healing journey is intricately linked to the collective journey towards inclusivity and equity. So, when we heal our past, we're also contributing to building a future where everyone feels valued and empowered.
